In my fifth grade spelling bee, the girl ahead of me got the word "necklace." She spelled it "n...e...c...k...l...e...s...s" They dinged her, but I figured that technically she was correct.
My favorite spelling bee was in seventh grade, the one where the kid puked on stage.

I got out on "lariat" at the regional spelling bee, and I've never forgiven myself.
